We’re proud to continue our support for the charity Hand in Hand this holiday season. Their project – Jobs for Change! in Kenya, works to reduce poverty through driving entrepreneurship and women’s enterprise. Through education, vocational training and access to micro loans, Hand in Hand helps women to start their own business.
More About Hand in Hand
Hand in Hand’s vision is to eradicate poverty and child labor through entrepreneurship, they focus primarily on poor and vulnerable women, believing that women are central to development work, because they have an important social and economic impact on both the family and society. Studies show that women generally invest 90% of their income on family wellbeing, while the corresponding figure for men is 30-40%. Hand in Hand believe that educating and strengthening women is the key to eradicating poverty.
To date, Hand in Hand have trained nearly 2 million people in their self-help groups, resulting in a corresponding number of start-ups and nearly 3 million jobs. Through their work and donors support, Hand in Hand have helped nearly 15 million people to create long-team improved living conditions. Families can now eat, children can go to school and do not have to work. Hand in Hand are also working to improve human health, the local environment and knowledge of democratic rights.
Hand in Hand was started in Sweden in the early 90’s, they now work with comprehensive development programs for entrepreneurial training, combating child labor, health, IT knowledge, democracy and the environment in India, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Myanmar and Cambodia. Their goal is to create 10 million companies, and help 50 million people out of poverty.
